In 2005, Janine Jarman bought a failing L.A. salon, reopened as Hairroin, and the rest is history. Jarman’s funk-and-futuristic vision, her extensive training and her quirky genius with vintage hairstyles jetted her to acclaim—she’s the stylist who created the signature look for The Pussycat Dolls, and has a long list of celebrity clients including Christina Applegate, Britney Spears, Lil’ Kim, and Carmen Electra. Jarman also became a favorite on Bravo’s hit series “Shear Genius.”
Hairroin in Herald Square offers cut and color, blowdry, and barbering for New York’s “best tressed.” The salon also offers styling and makeup services for weddings both in-salon and on-site, as well as styling for fashion, film and video. Hair extensions are a specialty—you can choose from more than 10 different types.
Parlour H, Hairroin’s digital salon, gives you a quiz about your hair type and care habits and then “combobulates” the results to recommend several products that suit your styling needs. You can shop by brand or hair needs (frizzy, limp, brassy, etc.), then view videos explaining what each product is for and how to use it. The site also has a whole selection of tutorials to school you on every imaginable hair topic.
Cuts from $90, blowouts $45.
