Perhaps best-known for its fizzy bath-bombs and soaps so delicious looking you aren't sure whether you should eat them or use them, Lush got its start as a small mail-order home-made cosmetics company based in Vancouver, and since then has grown to a bath-and-body ballistics empire, with more than eight hundred stores and spas in fifty-one countries and a brand new outpost on 61st and Lexington on the 2nd floor of their retail store.
The space itself is charming and informally decorated with fresh wild flowers, vintage books and a large wooden table. Lush fans can choose from seven different treatments including the Validation Facial ($140/60 mins) which incorporates essential oils and is accompanied by music and spoken words. The treatments are very New Age and so relaxing you will forget you're steps from Bloomingdales. Thank goodness you will be mentally ready to hit any sales on your way home.
More things to love about Lush: they don't buy from any companies that support animal testing and they test all their products on humans; their products are mostly vegetarian and/or vegan; they support various animal and human rights causes.
